The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset donated $15,000 to Nalu’s South Shore Grill to support a program that provides hot meals to fire survivors.
After the fires on Aug. 8, owner Ron Panzo closed Ekolu Kitchen 1279 for public dining. Starting the next day, he and Nalu’s began providing hot meals for first responders, hazmat personnel and Lahaina fire survivors. Panzo’s program has provided an average of 600 hot meals a week to two west side community hubs, with meals prepared in the now-closed Ekolu Kitchen and driven the roughly 60-mile round-trip to Lahaina.
The Rotary District 5000 Foundation Maui Fires Relief effort generated $10,000 and the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise provided $5,000 for the hot meals program, which will continue until funds are depleted.
