I had to look this one up - I'm more familiar with them being called macuahuitl. I'd think you'd want to start with a club (1d6) and have them also be piercing as well as bludgeoning. Probably also have a larger one that does 1d8 (and can be used 1 or 2 handed). Unless they're the size of a great club, I can't see them doing 1d10 or 2d6, that seems way over the top.
